Cyan Z-Series platforms support Carrier Grade Ethernet services and transport over connection oriented Ethernet, SONET, SDH or G.709 OTN transport technologies. Powerful packet service modules support advanced Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) services such as EPL, EVPL, E-LAN and more, with native connection oriented Ethernet transport. The ability to support these advanced services on the same module providing connection oriented Ethernet with software selectable G.709 OTN framing provides one integrated solution for both Ethernet services and transport.

By combining both Ethernet service and transport into a common module, Cyan's Z-Series can provide customer level packet classification, marking and shaping to comply with the customer level SLAs and then apply a second level of  queuing, shaping and SLA enforcement at the transport layer for maximum performance and control under a common Ethernet OAM. Leveraging the Z-Series architectural scalability, Ethernet services of up to 10 Gbps are supported on current service modules, while the ability to support over 100 Gbps of protected service capacity per card slot enables the migration to future 40G and 100G Ethernet service modules as those technologies mature and become more broadly used with future services.
