Cyan Z77Cyan Z77 Multi-Layer Transport Platform

The Cyan Z77 multi-layer transport platform has rapidly become recognized as the industry's first "purpose built" packet optical transport system. Transporting services in live networks since the Fall of 2008, the Cyan Z77 introduces transformation scale with support for well in excess of 100 Gbps of protected, full duplex, packet and TDM services per card slot and up to 2.5 Tbps per chassis.

Optimized for aggregation, transit and hub deployments, the Cyan Z77 expands the functionality and scale of Z-Series multi-layer transport platforms to support non-blocking multi-layer cross-connect (MXC) of packet, TDM, and wavelength services.

The Cyan Z77 supports the same service and capital efficient fixed wavelength modules as the Cyan Z33 – plus an additional set of Z77 tunable optics modules for fully automated colorless, non-directional WSS-based ROADM functionality. At just 13RU in height, the Cyan Z77 system combines massive capacity with modular functionality at a fraction of the cost of prior generation systems.

Multi-Function, Multi-Services

With industry leading support for packet and the transition of TDM to packet, the Cyan Z77 supports advanced packet switching and transport over connection oriented Ethernet, SONET/SDH, or wavelengths. Advanced Ethernet service modules provide options for aggregating 1GbE and 10GbE services into one or more fully loaded 10GbE or OTU2 transports. Various modules support options to deploy modules in pairs or in passive mesh configurations with up to 4 modules, without requiring the introduction of additional switch fabrics. As service densities scale, the Cyan Z77 platform supports an optional multi-technology switch fabric to provide non-blocking cross-connect switching and grooming across all 14 service and expansion slots for up to 840 Gbps of capacity.

Recognizing the continuing role of ATM and TDM in many networks, the Cyan Z77 also supports advanced SONET/SDH multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP) functionality on a blade. Each SONET/SDH service module supports high-density aggregation of OC-48/STM-16, OC-12/STM-4, OC-3/STM-1 and Ethernet over SONET/SDH into 10G OC-192/STM-64 or OTU2 transports. Modules can be deployed in passively backplane connected pairs or interconnected via an optional multi-technology switch fabric to provide non-blocking cross-connect switching and grooming for up to 720 Gbps of capacity.

Configurable to support fixed or tunable optics, the Cyan Z77 is also believed to be the first generally deployed platform supporting full colorless, non-directional, tunable optics for the ultimate in operational efficiency. Available since initial deployment, highly integrated WSS ROADM modules can be equipped, providing up to 7 degrees of optical switching with hands-free operation across up to 40 10G channels or 400 Gbps per fiber pair. For lower-capacity applications, capital efficient 4 or 8 channel DWDM modules can be equipped to provide economically compelling 40 Gbps to 80 Gbps of transport per fiber.

And of course, the Cyan Z77 is fully supported by Cyan's revolutionary CyMS multi-layer management system to streamline operations and simplify multi-layer management.
